Rotary International 2011-2012 Theme
|
Welcome to the website for the Rotary Club of Staten Island. Members and visitors are invited to familiarize themselves with our club and the activities, projects and events that we are proud to be involved in. Special thanks to Past-President Mark Scamardella and former Club Secretary Lou DeMartino for their efforts toward the creation of this website.
As we enter the new Rotary year 2011-2012, the Rotary Club of Staten Island remains dedicated to the mission of Community Service. This year will mark two very exciting milestones for our club. In March 2011, we will celebrate our 91st charter night marking our 90th anniversary of being chartered by Rotary International as the Rotary Club of Staten Island. In May 2011 we will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of our Rotary Ecology Day. Our Club has a long history of extremely meaningful successes. In addition to the twenty years of Rotary Ecology Day enriching our youth by leadership and example, this is also the 14th year of our Coats for Kids program where we donate brand new coats to children in need on Staten Island. Along with the other four Rotary Clubs on Staten Island, we continue to donate over 1,000 Thanksgiving Dinners each year. Our club also awards numerous grants and scholarships throughout the year. I trust our membership is motivated to continue each of these wonderful programs. As we are all aware, the economy continues to be challenging. Please be mindful of your fellow Rotarians who may also need your support.
Our goal this year is to increase our membership by recruiting those special people who strive to enhance our community, those with ethical business practices, those people who like ourselves want to create a better place to live, work and play.
In closing I would like to say that I am looking forward to a productive fulfilling year and to working closely with all the members of the Rotary Club of Staten Island.
